color challenge wednesday #22

For this week’s color challenge I chose the color combination of  dark blue, light blue and red (A|S colors:  navy, sky & cherry) and used the A|S Marvelous Marigolds stamp set…

I used a little pearl sticker embellishment for the center of the marigold and some foam squares to pop up the center panel. The sentiment is from the Essential Sentiments stamp set.  I hope you enjoy this color combination and can find time to try it out in your own stamping project this week!

clean & simple sunday #6

Good morning… its a rainy one here in the Northeast but I have to admit, I love a rainy Sunday…

For this weeks C&SS design I chose a color palette of red, light green and light blue on a neutral base card (the SU! equivalent would be Pear, Real Red and Bashful Blue on a Sahara Sand base card).  If you click on the photo I think it enlarges the images so you can see the detail.  I took a rectangle of light blue and cut strips of green, striped pattern paper, red and white with a sentiment pre-printed from my computer.

Stacked Bands

I cut the strips a 1/4″ shorter than the width of the light blue rectangle to create that light blue border around three of the edges, then cut the length of the strips to vary and fill up the light blue rectangle. For the green strip, I ran it through my Big Shot in an embossing folder to give it a texture. The striped band is just a piece of patterned paper cut to size. For the red strip, instead of leaving it plain, I stamped some stars in a slightly darker red (SU! cherry cobbler) to add interest, and then the white strip just says “Happy Birthday”.  I layered the strips starting at the bottom with the words and then building to the top green band. I then tied a ribbon between the striped and red bands. Finally, I  attached this piece to the base card flush with the folded edge.

Its a very simple card but you could make  small changes to the design and have a completely different card–such as adding a scallop to the bottom and some pastel colors/patterns to make it feminine, or using jewel colors and adding a flat strip of ribbon and a small button instead of a tied ribbon, that would make it a great card for a man.  Have fun with this simple card design!!
