clean and simple sunday no. 138

One of the things I’m trying to be better about this year is sending out birthday cards. I make a crazy number of cards every year for consignment shops and craft fairs  but this year I’ve committed to making some for my own stash and getting happy birthday wishes out to the people I love.

claritystencilbrushes

The cards I made this morning were created using my new Clarity Stencil Brushes. These brushes were a birthday gift and I absolutely love them. I love the way the ink brushes over the stencils with no bristle marks, leaving a soft layer of color. These brushes are made in the UK but you can purchase them through several sites here in the U.S.

To create the backgrounds for these cards I used two different stencils from Simon Says Stamp. I started by cutting six A2-size card bases and 6 panels of white card stock to fit the front of the A2 card bases. I placed a stencil over each white panel and one at a time, brushed dye based ink in various colors from Hero Arts over the stencils with my Clarity Stencil Brushes. For the card on the right, I brushed the color with the stripes in one direction, then turned the card panel 90 degrees and brushed ink in the new direction to get the plaid pattern.

After I stenciled each white panel with a background, I layered the stenciled patterned panels to the front of top fold card bases and added a banner strip with a black sentiment. All sentiments are from Stampin’ Up! The cards are finished with a sprinkle of sequins on each.

I made a total of 6 cards in under an hour and really enjoyed the process. I love how the black sentiments pop on the soft, pastel stenciled background patterns. I’m going to have a lot of fun with these stencil brushes!

I’ll be working on some custom orders over the next month or so but I’ll pop in again when  I need a break and have something fun to share.  Until then…

clean and simple sunday no. 137 ~ jingle all the way

I’m very happy to be back today for another clean and simple Sunday, sharing a card I made using the last Monthly Collection from A Muse Studio, the November Collection
novcoll_1-copy

This card was made using a sentiment and two of the snowflakes out of the Jingle All the Way stamp set. I used seattle and winter sky ink for the snowflakes and cherry ink for the sentiment.

novcoll_2-copy

I used a bit of the cherry baker’s twine and a few clear, white and star sequins to embellish. I think every snowflake card needs a little sparkle!

Every year around this time I start talking about handmade Christmas cards and what joyful tradition this has become over the years in my own holiday prep. I think it’s because I’m hand-making each card individually and it feels like with each card I send out, I’m sending a little handmade gift. Handmade gifts are my favorite–both to give and receive. I will be making some of my gifts this Christmas and can’t wait to share them with you here.

This is a very simple card design and uses minimal supplies so it fits perfectly in the “easy to mass produce” category. I hope you will consider making some of your Christmas cards this year!

You can order all of the supplies to make this card in my little shop right HERE, through November 26th. After November 27th, sadly, A Muse Studio will be closed for business. If you have questions about what you’d need to make any number of these cards, please leave me a comment, I’m happy to help!

clean and simple sunday no. 136 ~ sweet summertime

Inspired by projects we created at the National Conference last weekend, I’m back today with a clean and simple Sunday card featuring the Berry Patch stamp from the July Monthly Collection

CSS-0717-2016

I was reminded at Nat-Con how much fun it is to stamp outline images onto colored card stock and color them in with Copic markers. The rich saturation of the Copic color is stunning, even more so in person!

For this card, I stamped and white heat embossed the berry patch image onto winter sky card stock. I used Copic markers to color in the image (R24, YG25,B23 and Y13). The sentiment is from the Go Hog Wild stamp set and I finished off the design with a few clear twinkle stickers and then rounded the top right corner with my Corner Chomper tool.

I hope you’re having a wonderful weekend!

clean and simple sunday no. 135 + treat idea

Last day of January and your last chance to pick up some cute Valentine stamp sets from the January Collection!

This last Valentine I have to share is sweet and simple and sends a hug and a kiss to the recipient…

CSS135a

Using the From the Heart stamp set (again) to create this simple card design. I started with a cherry card base, added a sugar fish tail flag and popped that panel up with some foam adhesive. I stamped the XOXO in cherry ink and then the little sentiment below in Seattle ink. I added a few twinkle stickers and sequins to finish it off.

CSS135b

These cards are very easy to mass produce and I think it would be fun to make some and send to friends to brighten their Valentine’s day!

I also thought it would be fun to share with you a little card set I made using the One in a Melon set from the January Collection. I used this set to create these cards, plus a little treat idea below…

CSS135-extra1

These cards are size A1 or 4Bar and measure about 3.5×5″ with a left-side fold. I colored in the fruit images with some new Zig clean color real brush markers that I got for Christmas and stamped the outlines and sentiments with Ranger Archival Black ink so the outlines wouldn’t smear.

CSS135-extra2

These were VERY quick and simple to make. I used one of the stitched circle dies offered by A Muse Studio to cut the round panels. I die cut the fruit shapes and popped them off the panel with foam squares. Can’t wait to send these out!

I was also thinking these would be fun to use to create Valentine treats for little ones to send to school, or even co-workers… who wouldn’t love to come in to work and find this on their desk! 🙂

CSS135-extra3

Very easy to put together using the Tag Bundle Die Set, a stitched circle die, some Pebble Petite Hex card stock and a little Valentine lollipop. These were just generic store brand lollipops that I picked up at Stop & Shop. If you have any specific questions about how I made these, please ask me in the comments. I’m happy to share.

The stamps sets featured in today’s post are only available through midnight tonight! You can check out the A Muse Studio January Collection flyer HERE and place an order by going HERE.

That’s it for today’s clean & simple post, however I WILL be back later today with details and a flyer for the new FEBRUARY COLLECTION from A Muse Studio, and of course, another cute card!

clean & simple sunday no. 134

Today I have another cute Valentine created from that same stamp set – From the Heart – out of the January Collection of products offered by A Muse Studio…

CSS134

I’ve been working with my Peerless watercolors over the last two weeks and having a total blast. To create the background on this card, I used some painter’s tape to adhere the edges of a panel of watercolor paper to a clip board. I then created a couple of pools of color on my paint palette, mixing dabs of peerless watercolor and water. I used a square-edged paint brush to wash a clean wash of water over my watercolor paper and then added each of the three colors in bands across the paper to get that variation in color.

CSS134-b

Once the watercolored panel was dry, I stamped on the sentiment in Archival Black ink. I used foam adhesive to attach the panel to the sky card base, which I scored using my score board to create that subtle grid texture on the front of the card. I finished off the card with some turquoise and pink sequins and some clear twinkle stickers.

The Peerless watercolors are extremely rich in color. I am so happy I made the investment and purchased them because they will last me forever and they are a great addition to my collection of watercolor mediums. I tend to reach for them more than any other watercolor pencils, markers or ink pads, especially lately!

A Muse Studio offers a set of Peerless Watercolors on page 81 of the current catalog. They retail for $22.50 and as I mentioned, they are worth every penny!

watercolorpeerlesslg  peerless watercolor 2×2 sheets – 40 colors -#MWCPER2

An innovative, easy to use, easy to take along way to add self blending watercolors to your projects. Each sheet is 2×2 and it comes in these 40 colors. Amber Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Chrome Orange, Chrome Yellow, Daffodil Yellow, Gamboge yellow, Golden Yellow, Marigold Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Alizarine Red, Arbutus Pink, Blood Red, Jackqueminot Red, Poinsettia Red, Rose Red, Scarlet Lake, Scarlet Vermilion, Tear Rose Pink, Alice Blue, Butterfly Wing Blue, Cobalt Blue, Forget-me-not Blue, Peacock Blue, Robin’s Egg Blue, Turquoise Blue, Amethyst, Heliotrope, Mauve, Chrome Green Deep, Grass Green, Hunters Green, Mountain Green, Myrtle Green, Olive Green, Viridian Green, Neutral Tint, Bismark Brown, Burnt Umber, Ecru, Warm Sepia

DSC_1900 copyThe photo above shows how I store my Peerless Watercolors— in a 6×8 album binder using the 3×4 (quad) pocket inserts (also offered by A Muse Studio, current catalog page 59). I put a watercolor paper card (3×4) with a swipe of the paint color at the bottom, into each pocket and then I stapled the color sheet to the outside of the pocket above the swipe. The colors on the paint sheets don’t show up on the sheet the way they will on the watercolor paper, so the swipe of color gives me a better representation of how the color will really look on my project. I also put a sticker on the card with the name of the color, just for reference.

I created a little series of watercolored Valentines that I’ll be sharing this week, so keep an eye out for that post if you’re interested. If you have any questions about Peerless Watercolors or my storage method, please let me know in the comments. Enjoy your Sunday!

clean & simple sunday no. 133

Another cute Valentine to share using stamps from the A Muse Studio January Collection…

DSC_1645 copy

For this card, I used the From the Heart stamp set out of the January Collection, both the sentiment and the arrow image. The wiener dog is from the Welcome to the Neighborhood stamp set and the balloon around his tail is from the Hooray stamp set.

DSC_1642 copy

When you make a collage-style card, where you are grouping different images together, it’s fun to shop your stash and see what you have from different stamp sets that might go together. I knew I wanted to make a Valentine that incorporated this little Doxie image. We have a Doxie and I’m going to give this card to my husband, he’ll love it!

DSC_1601

This is our Dolly girl…Whenever Joe is sitting somewhere in the house, Dolly is on his lap. We call him the “dog magnet”. She LOVES being petted and insists on it!

So this is the card for this week! I have more Valentines coming using this great new Collection from A Muse Studio!

clean and simple sunday no. 132

So happy to be sharing my first post of the New Year! 2016 has brought a new home for A Muse Studio corporate headquarters, and a brand new January Collection!

As a special THANK YOU from A Muse Studio they’re offering customers a discount on orders placed between now and January 31st. Just use JANUARY10 as the discount code when you place you’re order!

The January Collection is full of fun! My C&SS cards this month will feature stamp sets from this cheerful, love-filled collection…

ASBeMine-Full

This card features a January Collection stamp set called FROM THE HEART. I used a plain, sugar base card and stamped on some of the stitched hearts using berry ink. I stamped off on some scrap paper once, then stamped onto my card base to give the hearts a lighter application. The BE MINE was stamped in the berry ink full strength. I stamped the sentiment on some cherry petite pinstripe card stock and then added a layer of onyx card stock as a mat and an onyx twinkle sticker to emphasize the BE MINE.
