Butterfly birthday {with a grunge background}…

I was thinking about the grunge background technique I learned at the recent A Muse Studio Consultant Conference out in Santa Fe, NM during one of the creative sessions, and I tried using it to create this pretty, butterfly birthday card. DSC_0333 copy

For this technique, I took a square of vanilla cardstock and stamped the script background stamp from A|S in mushroom ink onto the vanilla panel. I then took my wheat ink pad and smudged it around on top of the script panel to create that grunge background. I layered this piece onto a panel of mushroom card stock that I cut out with my label 1 die from Spellbinders, and wrapped it with a length of toffee twine.  The large butterfly I cut with my butterfly trio die set, using the largest of the three sizes. I embellished with a row of clear twinkle stickers to add some shine. The birthday sentiment is from our new Birthdays Inside and Out stamp set, and I stamped this in mushroom ink, right on that shell base card.

I think the grunge background technique adds a shabby-chic touch to this color scheme and overall card design; a little different for me, but I do like the resulting card. I hope you’ll give this grunge technique a try—just pull out a background stamp, create a panel and then smoosh a neutral ink pad color onto the panel and enjoy the results!

I welcome and appreciate your comments!  Thanks so much for having a look at my card design!
