fun with paper piecing…

Today I thought I’d have a little fun over at the CAS on Sunday blog and play along with their paper piecing challenge. This can be a really fun way to mix it up in your stamping—its a great way to add color, pattern and texture with card stock instead of ink!

My card features the Under the Big Top stamp set from A Muse|Studio. I stamped my elephant using Memento tuxedo black ink–a nice crisp black–onto both the grapefruit chevron and Seattle card stock colors. When I paper piece I like to cut out the main image just outside the black line. When I cut out the interior portions, in this case the grapefruit chevron pieces, I cut inside the black line and fit them into the space on the main image (the seattle piece). You can do it any way you wish, I just have found this way to work best for me.

I stamped a little oval on a panel of winter sky card stock in pebble ink to help anchor the elephant. I stamped the balloon in Memento tuxedo black ink and filled it in with grapefruit card stock. I then placed the elephant onto my panel so that his tail overlapped the string of the balloon and then paper pieced the elephant’s head piece and blanket.  Very easy to do and the paper piecing adds some nice color and texture to the card front.

Please let me know if you have any questions on paper piecing… there is TONS of inspiration over at the CAS on Sunday blog so be sure to check it out!
