Ombre or Rainbow… Which do you prefer?

This week I happened upon the A Muse|Studio Consultant Challenge Blog!  What fun!
This wonderful site poses creative challenges and all of the design team members are
A Muse|Studio Consultants. This is a great place to visit when you need some stamping inspiration!

This week’s challenge is to make a card showcasing “ombre” or “rainbow”… whichever you prefer. I decided to go with ombre and this is the card I created for the challenge…

Ombre a muse studio cas card design

Ombre is french term meaning shaded or graduated in tone. In stamping, this usually refers to using shades of color that would normally be adjacent on a color wheel, either warm or cool.

For my card design, I created the ombre background by taking an empty acrylic block, running a pink, then orange, then yellow Tombow marker back & forth in stripes across the empty block and then spritzing it lightly with water before stamping it onto a square of Bristol/watercolor paper. As soon as the background was dry, I stamped the flower sillouette from the A Muse|Studio Beautiful Botanicals 2 stamp set, in onyx ink directly over top of my background color. I finished off the design by wrapping a bit of onyx & white baker’s twine around the panel before attaching it to the base card with foam tape and adding that little “hello” sentiment.

There are some wonderful examples of ombre and rainbow cards at the challenge blog…pop on over to play along or to enjoy the inspiration provided by these very talented consultants.
