color challenge wednesday #14

This week’s color challenge brings together orange, turquoise and gray… (A|S colors: burano, bermuda and seattle)…

I used the elephant from the Under the Big Top stamp set to create this cute birthday card. I stamped the elephant using Memento black ink on a white panel. I then stamped the elephant on a scrap of burano venetian patterned cardstock and I cut out the headpiece and blanket shapes and glued them to the elephant I’d stamped on the white panel after I colored him in with a grey Copic marker. This is actually a lot easier than it looks as long as you’re using good detail scissors, such as Cutter Bee or the Spring-cut scissors offered through A Muse|Studio. Another tip I can offer when paper piecing is to cut just INSIDE the line, this way when you glue the piece down, the black line shows along the edge of the base image and the pieces you cut fit in like a puzzle, nice and clean.

I got so excited about this color combination that I also made a few cards using my favorite, Marvelous Marigolds, and in place of Burano I used Bellini cardstock & ink.  This is what I came up with…

Anytime I suggest a color combination, always take the liberty of moving around the color wheel slightly warm or cool within the same color range to use what you have on hand. You can get such great results with so little effort!

Have fun this week trying out this vibrant, sophisticated color combination!

  1. That elephant is so darn cute! I really like the color combinations created with the burano and the bellini – very nice.

  2. love the paper piecing on the elephant! super cute card!!! And, neat variations with the marigolds!
